Introducing the player dubbed the ‘New Zidane’

Nooruddean Choudry

Meet Enzo – the new captain of Real Madrid Castilla, Bernabeu’s second team.

He is a 20-year-old midfielder who must wear the famous Los Blancos crest on his chest, and the moniker of ‘Zidane’ in his name. So no pressure there then.

Enzo is of course Zinedine’s son, and so confident is the World Cup-winning father in his talented offspring that he is willing to risk claims of nepotism by granting him the captain’s armband.

Zidane the younger wears his first name on his back, but there’s no mistaking the resemblance when he pulls off roulettes with the same graceful élan of his legendary father.

Zizou himself is rightly proud of his son and sees some of himself in the 20-year-old.

“When I see the tricks and dribbles he does, I can see a bit of myself,” says Zidane Sr. Heady praise indeed.
