Manchester United, obviously, have been linked

Jadon Sancho is keen to return to England this summer, according to reports in Germany.

The England international has spent the last three seasons at Borussia Dortmund after leaving Manchester City in search of first team football but is now understood to be feeling homesick, and wants to sign for a Premier League club.

Sancho’s time in the Bundesliga has been very successful on a personal level. He has played 99 matches for the German club, scoring 34 goals and earning 11 England caps in the process. It’s unlikely he would have anywhere near that amount of first team experience had he stayed at City.

But now, he has his eyes on a Premier League move. Manchester United, obviously, have been linked with the winger a lot over the course of the past year. Their need for a top quality right winger has recently been satisfied by Mason Greenwood, the teenage sensation who came through United’s academy. Greenwood leapfrogged summer signing Dan James to become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first pick on the right wing since the restart, but is still 18 years old and will need to be afforded time and patience to grow.

Sancho’s versatility, a quality that both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial possess too, would help ensure all of their forwards got a fair amount of gametime.

It has been mooted that United will make a “take it or leave it” offer of £80m to Dortmund this summer, which could be enough to force their hand in a strange window when any club’s finances will be weaker than usual due to the pandemic-induced lockdown period.
