“He’s making excuses up already!” Roy Keane offers his take on Gary Neville’s first game as a manager

Gary Neville has been in charge of Valencia for one game, but it didn't stop Roy Keane from being critical of his former Manchester United teammate.

The Spanish side lost at home to Lyon - although Gent's win over Zenit St. Petersburg meant that even a win wouldn't have taken them through to the Champions League knock out stages. Following the game, Neville was quick to point out his new side's lengthy injury list. Keane, analysing the week's Champions League action for ITV, was amused by the comment, joking that the newly-appointed Neville was already making excuses. "You look at afterwards, he's talking about fixture pile-ups and injuries... He's making up excuses already." Keane also focused on the contrasts between Neville's punditry role on Sky's Monday Night Football and his new job at the Mestalla. "It's completely different. I think Gary's head will be spinning tonight after the game, after the defeat. "The emotions of it. It's chalk and cheese being a pundit to managing on the sideline, to working with players, man-management skills and he'll have the problem with the language, although I'm sure Phil will help him out with that." Neville will be looking for his first victory as a manager as Valencia return to La Liga action at the weekend. They travel to Eibar on Sunday.
