Here’s what was (apparently) being said between Jose Mourinho and Michael Carrick

Or so Twitter seems to think...

JOE

Some football fans, as this week has already shown, are particularly good at lip reading.

In midweek, we were reliably informed by some bloke on Twitter that a discussion between Antonio Conte and some of his staff during the dying minutes of Chelsea’s win over Manchester City was all about Tottenham.

With this in mind, it was inevitable that someone with access to a Twitter account would know precisely what was being said between Michael Carrick and Jose Mourinho as cameras picked them in conversation during the closing stages of Manchester United’s 3-0 win at Sunderland.

What makes this incident of ‘lip-reading’ all the more impressive is that we can’t actually see Michael Carrick’s face – let alone his mouth – for the majority of the conversation.

Despite that, more than enough folk on Twitter seemed to think the United boss was asking about the song being sung by the away supporters at that particular moment.

Carrick’s reply is believed to have explained that the song is a tribute to former striker, Diego Forlan.

Forlan, who endured a frustrating spell at United between 2002 and 2004, earned cult hero status with United fans for the brace of goals he scored against Liverpool. The words of this particular song make reference to that afternoon at Anfield.
