Death, taxes and Graeme Souness criticising Paul Pogba
Manchester United have not lived up to expectations so far this season. Or for the last few seasons for that matter. Despite spending a lot of money, José Mourinho and his squad have not managed to find a winning formula.
They are not associated with a specific style of play. Mourinho does not know his best XI. The squad looks bereft of confidence and morale is generally pretty low at Old Trafford, as local rivals Man City and Liverpool continue to dazzle fans with scintillating football.
Despite this long list of problems currently preventing Manchester United from reaching their full potential, one player gets more stick than others, and one pundit gives it to him more than any other.
Of course, I’m talking about Graeme Souness and his apparent agenda against Paul Pogba. Not a weekend goes by without Souness, veins popping out of his crimson red forehead, laying into Pogba for his supposed lack of application on the pitch.
Criticisms range from spending too much time on social media – yawn – to being too selfish on the pitch. And it’s every single week. Even when they win.
But today, Souness couldn’t even until after the game to unleash his barrage of criticism. So severe was his case of verbal diarrhoea today, that he decided to let loose on the Frenchman during the warm-up.
Jamie Redknapp, to his credit, attempted to steer the conversation away from Pogba and to focus on the midfield as a whole, but Souness was not having it.

Viewers – not even just Manchester United fans – expressed their frustrations at Souness’ comments on Twitter, highlighting that even Jamie Redknapp is sick of it now.
