Goran Bunjevcevic, the former Tottenham defender, has died aged 45

Bunjevcevic, who was elected to the board of the Serbian FA in 2016, had suffered a stroke in April of this year. He had been in a coma ever since.

During his playing career, Bunjevcevic played for Red Star Belgrade, making over 100 appearances for the club. He joined Tottenham following the departure of Sol Campbell to Arsenal in 2001, spending five years at White Hart Lane.

He had undergone emergency surgery following his stroke but never regained consciousness. His death was announced by Red Star on Thursday night.

Following confirmation of his death, Tottenham also sent a tweet.

‘We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our former player Goran Bunjevčević,’ the tweet read. ‘The thoughts of everyone at the Club are with his friends and family at this extremely difficult time.’
