Godfrey was injured in the early minutes of Everton's season
Ben Godfrey is set for a spell on the sidelines after being stretchered off during the early minutes of Everton's opening Premier League game of the season at home to Chelsea.
The defender injured his right leg as he attempted to block a Kai Havertz cross with ten minutes of the game played at Goodison.
His reaction quickly indicated he was in serious pain and medical personnel were quickly on the scene to tend to him.
Play was stopped for several minutes as the 24-year-old was treated on the field before being taken away on a stretcher. Pictures showed him to be taking oxygen while his right leg was in protective casing.
The injury seemed all the more cruel when it later emerged the ball had left the pitch seconds earlier, meaning play should have been stopped for a Chelsea corner.
