Sensational stuff!

GB rowing enjoyed a golden day at the European Rowing Championships in Varese, Italy, claiming victory in the women’s four and the PR3 mixed coxed four, while a men’s four development crew added a third gold.

Eleanor Brinkhoff, Angharad Broughton, Sarah Marshall and Holly Youd led most of the women’s four before holding off Germany. In the PR3 mixed coxed four, Frankie Allen, Charlotte Coburn, Josh O’Brien and Jonty Ridley, with cox Omar Al-Miqdadi, produced a dominant display to win by nearly six seconds from Italy. The men’s four of Theo Bell, Josh Brangan, Sam Ford and Tom O’Sullivan held off a late charge from Romania, as BBC Sport reported, capping a strong showing in Team GB’s summer of sport.

The regatta in Varese is a key marker ahead of the 2026 World Championships, which run from 24-30 August in the Netherlands. Britain’s senior men’s team were absent from Italy as they continued their preparations in Switzerland. Victory in three different boat classes will encourage the British squad as the countdown to the Worlds begins, with the results in Italy offering an early read on form against Europe’s leading crews.
