Gary Neville’s attempts to start a Brexit debate gets a predictable response

He's certainly divided opinion

Gary Neville is a glutton for punishment, by the looks of it.

Fresh from voluntarily bringing up his Valencia struggles upon his return to Sky Sports, the former England coach has decided to start his Wednesday by engaging his Twitter followers in a debate about Brexit.

If you want a quiet morning, taking a subject that split the population at a 52:48 ratio and throwing it open to the floor probably isn’t the way to do it.

Following the decision of some 17m people to vote for the UK to leave the EU – including a majority of voters in England and Wales – a petition for a second referendum picked up some 4m votes.

That was ultimately rejected, but it goes to show how divided the vote left the country.

As tends to be the case with such contentious subjects, whenever a high-profile figure weighs in with their thoughts there will tend to be a few popular trains of thought in the replies.

You’ll get those who vehemently disagree with their stance…
