A Premier League legend is considering coming out of international retirement to feature for his country at this summer's World Cup, it has been claimed.
With the highly anticipated tournament due to start on 11 June, we get to see a repeat of the 2010 opener, as Mexico take on South Africa in their home ground in Mexico City.
England don't feature until 17 June, where they take on Croatia in Arlington, Texas. A second show of the 2021 Euro opener, the Three Lions will be seeking glory under the new debuting gaffer Thomas Tuchel.
Of course, the Three Lions crashed out of the World Cup early in the 2022 quarterfinal, as finalists France defeated the side 2-1 in Qatar.
And the France goalkeeper at the time, Hugo Lloris hasn't featured since Les Blues' finale showdown versus the succeeding Argentina. The most capped Frenchman of all time with a sensational 145 apps, he announced his international retirement less than a month after the Qatar heartbreak, focusing instead on family time and club football.
At 39 now though, he is considering coming out of retirement in order to make the final squad. Le Parisien has reported that an injury to Paris Saint-German's Lucas Chevalier has left the door wide open for Lloris to come back, in order to return to Didier Deschamps' squad for the 2026 World Cup in North America.
Lloris would act as France's third-choice goalkeeper, with AC Milan's Mike Maignan the new number one, and former Forest keeper Brice Samba second in the pecking order.
France gaffer Deschamps is set to announce his squad for the summer on May 14, with Lloris a potential shock inclusion.
A Prem legend, Lloris spent 12 years at Tottenham Hotspur, before departing at the end of his contract in 2024.
