Former Manchester United icons are thought to be on Jose Mourinho’s radar

Jose Mourinho is yet to be officially confirmed as Manchester United manager, but now it is a question of when, not if.

Louis van Gaal has been relieved of his duties, with the Portuguese man waiting in the wings, and two figures with a strong affinity to the club could follow Mourinho to Old Trafford. The Sun reports that Gary Neville and Brian Kidd are both in contention to join the former Chelsea manager's backroom team, ensuring there is a connection with the Manchester United of old. Rui Faria and Silvino Louro, both of whom have worked with Mourinho at several clubs including Chelsea and Real Madrid, are also expected to continue their relationship with the manager. The Sun claims Neville and Mourinho remain in close contact, while the manager-elect is also thought to be keen on Kidd following his work in bringing through the Class of '92. The 66-year-old served as Alex Ferguson's assistant from 1991-98, but has been with Manchester City since 2009, working under Pellegrini and his predecessor Roberto Mancini. Former United captain Neville would not be available until he has fulfilled his coaching duties with England at Euro 2016, while Kidd is expected to leave Manchester City following the departure of head coach Manuel Pellegrini. If the pair do arrive, that would potentially spell the end for Ryan Giggs. The Welshman has been at the club since 1987 as a player, coach and (briefly) as an interim player-manager, but his time at Old Trafford may be coming to an end.
