Former Arsenal and Liverpool goalkeeper Alex Manninger has died aged 48, as confirmed by the Austrian Football Association.
Posting on social media, the Austrian FA announced: "The news of Alex Manninger's death is deeply shocking.
"With him, football loses a special person."
Manninger is best known to English football fans for the 39 games for Arsenal between 1997 and 2002, as he won Premier League and FA Cup titles.
Despite playing back-up to David Seaman, the goalkeeper has always maintained a strong sense of affinity with the Arsenal fanbase, due to the many occasions that Manninger filled in and impressed when called upon.
Back in 2016, the Austrian signed for Liverpool when then-manager Jurgen Klopp was in charge, but the player never went on to make a formal performance for the Redmen.
Further tributes have been paid to Manninger by former clubs, including Arsenal.
Taking to X, Arsenal wrote: "Everyone at Arsenal is shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic passing of former goalkeeper, Alex Manninger.
"All our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this incredibly sad time.
"Rest in peace, Alex." .. . . . . .
