The one thing we won’t miss about Jurgen Klopp when he leaves Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp

For everything he’s done, it’s the one side of his personality we won’t miss

Jurgen Klopp’s farewell tour of England will not end with a historic quadruple as Liverpool fell to defeat against Manchester United in dramatic fashion.

In what can only be described as an FA Cup all-timer it was United who emerged victorious, scoring a 120th minute winner via Amad Diallo to beat their Merseyside counterparts 4-3 and book their place at Wembley.

A game that will go down in history was ecstasy for Erik ten Hag’s men but also agony for Klopp and co. Their season will still be a brilliant one if they add the Premier League and Europa League to their earlier Carabao Cup success, but losing to your rivals is always gut-wrenching.

Klopp storms out of interview

However Klopp caused controversy after the game in which he stormed out of an interview with Norwegian TV after seeminglybecoming irritated by questions about his team’s performance.

Overall, Klopp was gracious in admitting defeat and congratulated United but when asked if his team found it difficult to find the same level of intensity we’re accustomed to seeing with his Liverpool side, he lost his cool.

“That’s a bit of a dumb question, I have to say, if you see us often. If you never see us then you can ask ‘how can they have more resources?'” he replied.

“We played I don’t know how many games recently, I don’t know how many games United exactly have played. That’s sport. I’m really disappointed by that question, but you thought the opposite so that’s good.”

He then cut off the interviewer, who tried to move on the conversation, saying: “Oh, you don’t think that? Ah, come on, you’re obviously not in good shape and I have no words for you,” before walking off.

It’s this side of Klopp that many won’t miss.

People won’t miss Klopp’s post-defeat behaviour

In many ways, Klopp’s behaviour is exactly how the majority of us would be after losing. When we win it’s elation, when we lose it’s frustration.

But there’s a line that shouldn’t be crossed. After all, the interviewer from Nordic TV was just doing his job and asking questions which are of course, designed to get thought-provoking insight from Klopp – or any other manager who’d have been in that situation. However irked he may have been, was it really necessary to act like that?

The German’s legacy is there for all to see. He reinvigorated and transformed a Liverpool side stagnating into one that is now widely considered to be one of the best in the world. The only side that have regularly threatened to topple Manchester City and done by playing some truly breath-taking football.

His presence on the touchline and in the league will be missed, without doubt, but this is one thing many will be glad to see the back of.
