The World Cup final was briefly interrupted early in the second half

Pussy Riot, the Russian activists, have claimed responsibility for the pitch invasion which temporarily stopped play during the World Cup final on Sunday afternoon. France were leading Croatia 2-1 at the time as many as four individuals evaded stewards and made their way on to the field of play during the early stages of the second half. https://twitter.com/JacquiOatley/status/1018529230269898752 Referee Nestor Pitana called a halt to the game so that the invaders could be stopped and escorted away. A lengthy message, which can be read below, was posted to Pussy Riot's Facebook page confirming they were behind the invasion.
