Alan Shearer lamented the decision
Newcastle United were left raging after Paris Saint-Germain rescued a point in the final minute of their Champions League group game.
Eddie Howe’s side were on the verge of pulling off a famous win in the French capital thanks to Alexander Isak’s first half goal that would’ve seen the Magpies move into second of Group F and push PSG down into third.
With just seconds to go however, play was paused after PSG’s players accused Tino Livramento handling the ball.
Replays seemed to show that the ball hit the chest of Livramento before bouncing up onto his arm from close range.
Referee Szymon Marciniak checked the VAR monitor and decided to award the spot-kick, which left Ally McCoist shocked on the TNT Sports commentary and several angry on social media.
Alan Shearer commented: “Do me a f*****g favour man. What a load of s**t. #VAR”
Kylian Mbappe then stepped up from 12 yards to convert the penalty and spare PSG’s blushes after the hosts misses a number of chances in the second half.
The result means that Newcastle’s hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages were dealt a severe blow and they’ll need to hope that Borussia Dortmund can beat the French giants and they can defeat AC Milan at St James’ Park.
