‘I’d be lying if I said no’

Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate has admitted that he has dreamed of playing for Paris Saint-Germain one day.

The French defender joined the Reds from RB Leipzig in 2021 and has found himself becoming one of the first names on the team sheet after biding his time at Anfield.

His performances have reportedly caught they eye of PSG, who a monitoring his displays ahead of a potential move.

PSG have undergone a radical overhaul with their transfer strategy, moving on big names such as Lionel Messi and Neymar in favour of a side with a French core to it.

Randal Kolo Muani, Lucas Hernandez and Ousmane Dembele were all new arrivals while youngster Warren Zaïre-Emery has broken into the first team and looks to be the future man for both PSG and the French national team.

When asked about the rumoured interest, Konate told Canal+ that it was something he would like to fulfil one day.

He said: “If I said no, I’d be lying, but if you’re asking, is it one of my objectives? Not at all.”

Konate added that he had been impressed by PSG’s transfer activity and believes that the new additions will help the squad thrive in the long term.

“PSG has made sure to recruit players who understand each other well and who play with each other for the France national team,” he continued.

“Even for the people and the Parisian fans, it makes them happy.

“It’s what they’ve been waiting for for years, having Parisian players or at least French players in the team.”
