Philippe Coutinho returns to Liverpool (not in that way, obviously)

He made his Barca league debut on Sunday

Philippe Coutinho is back in Liverpool.

Or at least he was at some point on Monday.

The Brazilian finally completed his move to Barcelona earlier this month, after Liverpool knocked back numerous bids for the player last summer.

Having made his league debut for the Spanish giants on Sunday evening, Coutinho returned to Merseyside to say his farewells to his former teammates.

Adam Lallana shared an Instagram post explaining that Coutinho was back in town to say his goodbyes.

Barca had to come from a goal behind in their La Liga game with Alaves on Sunday. The visitors had taken a shock lead at the Camp Nou after 23 minutes through former Manchester City striker John Guidetti.

It remained this way until Luis Suarez equalised for Barca with less than 20 minutes remaining. Lionel Messi secured the three points five minutes from time.

Coutinho’s night came to an end on 66 minutes when he was substituted.

Many Liverpool fans have been left frustrated at their club’s failure to bring anyone other than Virgil Van Dijk to Anfield during the January transfer window. Despite paying a world record fee for a defender, the amount Liverpool received for Coutinho was almost double what was forked out for the Dutchman.

With the news that Arsenal are close to bringing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the club from Borussia Dortmund, plenty of Reds have expressed their disappointment on Twitter.
