One last dance

Neil Warnock is set to make a shock return to management by being appointed as Huddersfield Town manager.

The Daily Mail have revealed that the 74-year-old is set to take over as the Terriers bid to avoid being relegated from the Championship.

Warnock retired from management in April 2022 after leaving Middlebrough in November of the year and vowed not to return to the dugout in a bid to spend more time with his wife Sandra.

However the popular Yorkshireman has performed a dramatic u-turn and is set to return to the club he managed between 1993 and 1995, winning promotion via the play-offs in 1995 before leaving shortly after.

His return is likely to go down well with the fanbase given his previous stint and excellent track record at keeping clubs above the dreaded bottom three.

In his managerial tenure, Warnock has managed 16 clubs but this one could prove to be one of his toughest tests yet as he prepares to take the reigns from Mark Fotheringham, who was sacked this weekend.

Huddersfield slipped to second from bottom in the Championship after losing 1-0 to relegation rivals Wigan Athletic on Saturday, who leapfrogged them in the process.

They remain a point away from safety and travel to Stoke City on Wednesday night in a must-win fixture if they are to realise their ambitions of survival.
