Mauricio Pochettino admits he may quit Chelsea at the end of the season

A decision will be made at the end of the season

Pochettino had endured an up and down season in his first year in charge of the Blues but could end it with them returning to Europe after missing out on continental action last year.

Ahead of his side's trip to Nottingham Forest, the 52-year-old admitted that his long-term future depended on two factors: if Todd Boehly and co are happy with him and if vice versa. If one side can't come to an agreement, then there's every possibility the Argentine will walk.

"If we are happy, perfect," he said.

"But it is not only if the owners are happy or the sporting directors are happy. If we are happy, you need to ask us also, because maybe we are not happy and we accept the situation and we need to split.

"It is not going to be the first time that the coaching staff at the end of the season decide to not keep going. But at this end, it is always the opposite way.

"It is always the owners or the sporting directors. They can say tomorrow. Maybe I can say, 'I want to leave'. It is two parties to make a decision. Because Chelsea is not happy or the owners are not happy or the sporting directors are not happy."

A summer of change at Chelsea? Again?

Going back to no more than a couple of months ago, you'd be forgiven for expecting that Chelsea fans were hoping for a new squad and new manager but now, it couldn't be further from that.

Recent performances over the last couple of weeks have seen a resurgent looking Chelsea side, capable of entertaining and picking up results to the point where they may even qualify for Europe.

Pochettino is starting to get the best out of the likes of Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke. Cole Palmer of course has been firing on all cylinders all season and now it looks like there's signs that there may be progression in the future.

His best asset is getting the best out of youngsters and something Chelsea have lacked in recent years is stability. Sure, it's been sticky and there's been a few bumps in the road this season but when isn't there at any club?

It'll be intriguing to see how talks develop between the two parties but it does feel like if he is given the tools, he'll be able to flourish and make Chelsea a force to be reckoned with again.
