Masters Football to make dramatic comeback to TV screens

The ultimate TV show is back

Masters Football has announced that it will return to our television screens for the first time since 2011 with a new-look event. The show, which was one of Sky Sports' most popular programmes, will return as the newly-named '360 Sports TV Masters Cup',  taking place at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow on July 8. A selection of star-studded talent will feature in the six-a-side format, including names such as Paul Scholes, Wes Brown and Steve McManaman as the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Celtic and Rangers all compete. Sports documentary streaming site 360 Sports Television are the pioneers behind the new tournament, which will initially be a cup format. However, there are already plans in place to host a full, major tournament with regional heats in 2023. John Warrington, the founder and producer of 360 Sports Television worked on the original Masters Football series as well and revealed that he has some exciting plans in place for the return of an iconic footballing show. "Having been involved with the production of the first series of Masters Football and presented the highlights version on Channel 4, this has definitely been a 360-degree journey for me and it holds very special memories," Warrington said.

"More recently, I produced the Masters Football Remastered series for Amazon Prime and the incredible viewing figures left me in no doubt that there remains a huge appetite for Masters and we just had to bring it back.

"360 Sports TV is a sports documentary streaming platform but if there is one live event which would be a match for us and our audiences then it is undoubtedly Masters Football.

"Masters Football was always pioneering; for example, it was the first football tournament as far as we know to use a version of VAR back in 2009.  Our production team is working on new ideas and ways to engage an audience and coverage of the 360 Sports TV Masters will be a superb viewer experience."

Warrington relied on a number of people to help with the launch of 360 Sports TV, ranging from the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Adam Lallana, to ex-Ireland and Celtic manager Martin O’Neill and former Arsenal and Nottingham Forest man, Tony Woodcock.

Woodcock, who is also a co-founder of the documentary site and played in the inaugural series of the original Masters Football, expressed his delight to play a part in its return.

"It just feels fantastic to bring Masters Football back to life. It has real history and there’s been a tremendous buzz over social media recently with petitions to revive the tournament.

"I played in the first ever series of Masters Football which immediately caught the attention of fans up and down the country who delighted in watching their heroes from the past showing off their skills once again.
