He might not be the manager's favourite, but the fans love him
When he arrived at Old Trafford in 2015, Anthony Martial was under a lot of pressure to hit the ground running. He was signed for a transfer fee that could have risen to £58m, just before the market went properly crazy. United were short of strikers, still starting Wayne Rooney up front despite his obvious decline. But Martial lived up to the hype, instantly endearing himself to the fans by scoring a winning goal against Liverpool.
Since then, he has had the backing of most United fans, who know just how talented the Frenchman is. Meanwhile, José Mourinho has shown that he's not as keen on the player as many fans. The signing of Alexis Sánchez in January confirmed Mourinho's distrust of Martial (and Marcus Rashford to a lesser extent), as the Chilean would leapfrog the pair of them to the top of the pecking order to play on the left wing.
Nevertheless, Martial's love for United appears to have remained as strong as ever, if his latest Twitter exchange is anything to go by.
This Liverpool fan tweeted "

...to which Martial responded "You should change your jersey."

United fans were obviously delighted to see their player mock their most bitterly hated rivals, and subsequently out came all the pleas for him to stay at the club.

Manchester United may soon have to decide whether their priorities lie with keeping players like Martial at the club or holding onto Mourinho. It's clear who the fans would rather see stay.
