Manchester United are reportedly willing to treble Antoine Griezmann’s wages in a bid to sign him in January.

Griezmann has enjoyed a fruitful season with the LaLiga side so far, scoring 12 goals in 16 games, recapturing the form he showed during his first spell at Atletico Madrid.

United’s season couldn’t have gone any more different if they tried as they endure their worst start to a league campaign in 61 years.

A slender 1-0 victory against Luton Town last week papered over the cracks but with Erik ten Hag under an increasing amount of pressure he is looking to bolster his squad.

Goals have been hard to come by for United.

With Marcus Rashford failing to match the expectations of last season, Rasmus Hojlund yet to bag in the Premier League and other members of the squad also in a poor run of form, Ten Hag has identified Griezmann as someone who can rectify the problem.

El Nacional have even suggested that the Dutchman is so keen to bring the 32-year-old to Old Trafford that United are prepared to triple his wages, which would see him earning €21m (£18.4m) per year.

That would equate to around £350,000-per-week, which would in turn make him the joint-highest paid player at United, alongside Casemiro according to Spotrac.

The forward’s contract also reportedly contains at €25m release clause, a far more affordable expense than other potential targets.
