Dyer will have a liver transplant after being diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis
Kieron Dyer is to have a liver transplant after the Ipswich Town Under-23s manager has been diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis.
Dyer was admitted to hospital to undertake tests earlier last week with Ipswich saying that the 42-year-old had been suffering problems with his liver in the last couple of years.
The former Newcastle United and England midfielder suffered a collapsed lung last month when featuring on Channel 4 show Celebrity SAS: Who Dares wins after suffering a cracked rib, which as a result, punctured his lung.
In a statement on the Ipswich Town website Dyer thanked fans for the support and to respect his and family's privacy at the time.
He said: “Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with a condition of the liver a couple of years ago, that would lead to me one day needing a transplant.
“Over the next week, test results will confirm when I need to go through this procedure.
“I see myself as a very positive person that will overcome this minor setback.
“I’m very grateful to the Club, the supporters and the general public for their messages of support over the past week.
"I would like to ask everyone now to respect my privacy, and my family’s privacy.”
Wishing Kieron a speedy recovery and a successful operation.
