An afternoon to forget for Chelsea
Kalidou Kouliably was shown a second yellow card for a silly challenge as he and Chelsea were hammered by Leeds United on Sunday afternoon.
Koulibaly had been given a yellow card early in the first half for a late-timed challenge which set the tone for how the rest of the afternoon would go for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Leeds went ahead thanks to a calamitous error from Édouard Mendy who tried his luck by attempting to dummy Brenden Aaronson, who read the move with ease and dispossessed him before rolling the ball into an empty net.

The hosts then doubled their advantage minutes later as Rodrigo Moreno continued his strong start to the season by scoring his fourth goal in three games with a well-cushioned header.

Rodrigo then turned provider for Leeds’ third as his wayward attempt was fortunately latched onto by Jack Harrison, who reacted quickest out of everyone to poke the ball home and send Elland Road into raptures.

Chelsea’s misery was compounded as new signing Koulibaly was given his marching orders for needlessly bringing down Leeds substitute Joe Gelhardt just inside the Blues’ half.
Jesse Marsch’s side remain unbeaten in the Premier League having won two out of their opening three top-flight games. A first win in 21 years against the west London side leaves Leeds in the Champions League spots.
Meanwhile it’s back to reality for Tuchel and Chelsea who will now be without their summer signing from Napoli for next weekend’s game against Leicester City.
