Lingard's tribute was met with huge backlash
It's been a tough season, so it's perhaps understandable that it doesn't take much to wind up Manchester United fans these days. Just ask Jesse Lingard, who is once again feeling the wrath of some United supporters after he attempted to wish Mark Noble well following his retirement.
Lingard paid tribute to Noble ahead of his final home game before retiring
Lingard played alongside Noble during the second half of last season, which he spent on loan at West Ham.
With Noble making his final appearance at home for the club in the game against Manchester City on Sunday, Lingard wanted to reach out to his old teammate to wish him well.
Replying to a tweet posted by West Ham, Lingard said: "Hope the legend Mark Noble has a great send off today to mark an incredible career. He took me under his wing and taught me so much in a short space of time. Good luck for the next chapter, Mr West Ham."

Man United fans' (0ver)reaction on social media
Lingard is poised to leave United on a free this summer. Having been denied a farewell in the club's final home game of the season against Brentford, his
brother took aim at the club on Instagram - accusing them of being 'classless'.
Perhaps partly because of that, Lingard's message to Noble - innocent though it may have been - didn't go down too well with fans of his current employers, who were quick to let the midfielder know their thoughts:

As you can see, not one overreaction in the slightest.
