The video has caused plenty of controversy

Gary Neville has spoken out for the first time about the recently viral David Coote video.

On Monday the PGMOL suspended David Coote after a video circulating social media appeared to show the Premier League referee making choice remarks towards Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp.

The video, appearing to show Coote, went viral quickly since surfacing on X and Reddit.

It is not known when the video was recorded, or the context of the video.

A statement was subsequently released by the PGMOL:

“David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation. PGMOL will be making no further comment until that process is complete.”

Now, pundit and Manchester United legend Gary Neville has spoken out about the video, claiming that the seriousness of the video is not as bad as many are suggesting.

Speaking on the Overlap US, Neville said: “He’s called Jurgen Klopp the C-word, which is obviously an aggressive word, but I didn’t see anything within his words that he had influenced Liverpool in the wrong way or was trying to do Liverpool over…”

He added: “I don’t feel like he should lose his career and lose everything he has worked his entire life for.”

Neville’s co-host and former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher is yet to speak out.
