A former Chelsea star has claimed that Cristian Romero is "capable of ruining Tottenham's season" following his red card on Monday night.
Romero was shown a straight red for a horror tackle on Enzo Fernandez, which resulted in Cole Palmer equalising from the penalty spot.
The Argentine was fortunate to be on the pitch in the first place after kicking out at Levi Colwill shortly before Raheem Sterling's disallowed effort.
It was the first of two reds for Ange Postecoglou's side as Destiny Udogie was shown given his marching orders in the second half as Chelsea came from behind to win 4-1 in one of the games of the season.
Despite proving himself to be one of the best defenders in the league, Romero's hot-headed attitude has landed him in trouble at times.
His red card was the fourth time he has been sent off for Spurs in 75 appearances.
Former Chelsea star Andy Townsend discussed the red alongside Ally McCoist on TalkSPORT, where he admitted that he fears Romero could prove to be detrimental for Spurs' hopes of success.
He said: "In regards to Romero, I'm sure they love him. All the fans love a cult-hero type of player.
"[But] he's capable of ruining a season, if you're not careful. He’s been playing outstandingly well, with Van de Ven, but he's just got that thing in him where he can just go, in a split second."
