Euros history could be created after France and Netherlands matches

Euro 2024

A once in a blue moon sort of scenario

The final fixtures of the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign are drawing to a close and one group in particular has quite a unique situation.

Plenty of sides have booked their place at Germany 2024 including the likes of England, France and reigning champions Italy with only three spots left to confirm.

Group B has seen France and the Netherlands both qualify automatically in first and second respectively while Greece will contest the play-offs thanks to their Nations League position.

Didier Deschamps’ side are top of Group B with seven wins from seven whereas Gibraltar are bottom with seven defeats from as many games, including a 14-0 hammering against France in their most recent game.

But history can be made if France win their game against Greece and (when) the Netherlands can beat Gibraltar.

If successful, it would make the “perfect group”, as pointed out by one Reddit user.

“If France defeats Greece and the Netherlands beats Gibraltar on Tuesday, group B will end as a ‘prefect group’. Each team will have won twice against every team below it in the standings, and lost twice to each the teams above them.”

France would have eight wins, with Netherlands on six victories. Greece, meanwhile, would have four wins to their name, with Ireland on two.

Gibraltar would then finish off with zero wins. No side would’ve drawn to each other.

To make it even more satisfying, the difference in points between each team would be identical. France would have 24, with Netherlands on 18. Greece would have 12, Ireland six and Gibraltar zero.

Perfection.
