Manchester City fell to their third defeat in four games as Gabriel Martinelli came off the bench to score a lat winner for Arsenal.
Martinelli's effort deflected off Nathan Ake in the 86th minute to secure a massive three points for Mikel Arteta's men and take them joint-top of the league with north London rivals Tottenham.
The Gunners also moved two points clear of their opponents, who struggled to get a foot hold of the game and never looked like scoring when going forward.
After the game, tensions seemed to boil over near the tunnel at the Emirates Stadium as Erling Haaland and Kyle Walker seemed to react angrily to comments made by the Arsenal staff on the bench.
Both looked to have exchanged verbals before they were escorted down the tunnel.
Another source claimed that the argument took place between Haaland and Arsenal's set piece coach, Nicolas Jover, who used to work at Man City, before Walker came over to calm down the situation.
