Edinson Cavani happy for Jadon Sancho after he overcame ‘tough period’ at Man Utd

Sancho struggled to adapt to life at Old Trafford, but now has two goals from his last two games

Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani has praised Jadon Sancho for scoring his first goals for the club and admitted that he has had to overcome a 'tough period.' Sancho signed from Borussia Dortmund for £73 million in the summer after United displayed a long-term interest in the England international, however the 21-year-old had initially struggled to adapt to life at Old Trafford. Sancho largely played out of position, however in his last two games caretaker Michael Carrick has started him in his more comfortable right-wing position. Since moving there, Sancho has scored in back-to-back games against Villarreal and most recently Chelsea - as the youngster looks more and more like the player that caught the eye of so many people during his time in Germany. Cavani, who is now into his second season in England is delighted for Sancho's recent contributions, but revealed that it's not been an easy start since he made the move from the Bundesliga. "I think it’s been quite a tough period for him, but football is like that," he told the United website. "When you get to a certain level of the game, I think that people are always full of expectation and there’s always a lot of chat and questions being asked about players. "I reckon that one of the things that scoring goals can give you, a lot of the time, is the sense of assurance and peace of mind to keep on working and training hard. "I think, a lot of the time in football, you have to have an extra inner strength about you, which is to be able to keep going when on many occasions we don’t get on the scoresheet. We are all really happy for him scoring his first goal." The experienced striker then challenged his teammate to continue his progression and work hard on improving even more. Cavani said: "I think he just needs to keep demonstrating everything he has shown us up to now and keep working calmly and with a clear head; because often, the only thing that can make you enjoy success and able to keep your standards high. "The rest of it, is the peace of mind that hard work gives you. I personally wish him every success and hope he can go on to achieve lots more in his career and for Manchester United." United face Arsenal on Thursday as they look to try and close the gap on the Champions League places. Related links:
