"They showed us today we are not at the same level"
Bruno Fernandes admitted that Manchester United are 'not at the same level' as Manchester City as they were comfortably beaten by the Citizens.
You'll be hard pressed to find many people who disagree in all honesty as Pep Guardiola's side cruised to their win without breaking a sweat.
An Eric Bailly own goal and Bernardo Silva strike just before half time condemned United to a disappointing defeat as they looked second best from the moment the game kicked off.
And Fernandes admitted that United do not possess the same quality as they city rivals.
Speaking to BBC Sport, he said: "They showed us today we are not at the same level.
"They played well, they don't give you opportunities to win the ball off them so praise to them but (our) standards need to be raised.
"At the moment we are (far off the top teams). The demands on me and the players are going to be high and we have to get back to what we started to look like. We have the players to do that."
The midfielder also apologised to the fans who saw their side produce a lacklustre display.
He said: “We just have to apologise to the fans and that’s it. It was not good enough from us.”
The Portugal international was also the focus of some criticism after the game as Graeme Souness and Micah Richards discussed his involvement in the defending for City's second goal.
Both had contrasting opinions with Souness claiming that Wan-Bissaka should have ran out to close down Joao Cancelo's cross whilst Richards believed that Fernandes' unwillingness to help made the job harder for the United full back.
