The youngster is attracting attention from Europe

With good reason, big things are expected of Manchester United’s Angel Gomes.

Part of England’s World Cup-winning U17 squad in India last week,  his appearance in United’s final home game of last season saw him become the youngest player to represent the club’s first team.

While many expect him to develop into a regular first team performer at Old Trafford in the years ahead, his father has told Portuguese outlet RTP that other clubs are casting admiring glances in his son’s direction.

“He is the youngest player in the history of English football of Manchester United,” Gil Gomes said.

“So the qualities are really above average.

“And today he is a player coveted by all the greats of Europe.”

His comments follow reports last week which indicated that United were worried over the youngster’s future, with Gomes still to sign a new contract with the club.

With his friend and England U17 teammate Jadon Sancho leaving Manchester City for Borussia Dortmund in the summer, Gomes making a similar move to another European club is something that’s very much a possibility, especially with reports claiming Barcelona are interested in bringing him to the Nou Camp.
