The Faroe Islands don’t often win football matches

Scrolling back through their results on Google, it appears the only other nation the Faroe Islands are capable of getting a result against is Malta, another minnow in the world of international football.

The two nations came up against each other on Thursday night as the UEFA Nations League kicked off for its second campaign, and played out a five goal thriller.

I say thriller, I don’t know. Nobody watched it, but I can confirm there were five goals.

And the best of the bunch came in the dying seconds of the game, as Brandur Hendriksson stepped up to score a dipping, curling free kick to give the Faroe Islands a 3-2 lead.

Executing the shot with impeccable technique, the Maltese keeper was helpless.

Hendriksson, overjoyed at scoring such a brilliant goal, then jumped into the stands to celebrate with his teammates. Scenes that, quite frankly, you love to see.
