Bunino, who plays for Lecco, was set to come onto the pitch in the 73rd minute during their game against Piacenza.

Before coming on the forward discreetly tried to answer the call of nature but was caught by one of the match officials, leading to his instant dismissal.

His red card didn't affect his side too negatively though as Lecco held on to draw 0-0, their third consecutive goalless game in the league to remain fourth in the table.

Although the officials followed the rulebook accordingly, Lecco boss Luciano Foschi felt that the decision to send him off was harsh.

"It's the rules and they must be applied, but I was hoping that the officials would use common sense because he didn't offend anyone and no one saw it," he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I was hoping for a yellow card, but the referee didn't make a mistake. And Bunino? In my opinion, he didn't even know what was going to happen."

The former Juve striker came through the ranks at the Bianconeri and played 34 times for their Under-23s side while also featuring on two occasions for Italy's Under-19s squad.

He joined the third tier Italian side in January on loan from Pro Vercelli until the end of the season. The 26-year-old has scored one goal in eight games for his new side.
