But there is nothing small about the former England bowler now, after he took up weightlifting in his retirement.
He was never exactly skinny, but standing at 201cm, he was more known for his height than his strength.
And after a photograph of Tremlett stood next to cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar went viral, fans have noticed just how much muscle pass he has packed on since hanging up his bowling boots.
"If I can look as good as this guy at his age, I'll be a very happy man," Tremlett wrote on Twitter.

Tremlett's Instagram page is packed with workout videos and impressive photographs showing off his incredible transformation from Big Lad into Absolute Tank.
Take this photo, for instance, taken after a Legends match between ex-England and ex-India cricketers. Not to shame any of his teammates, but it's clear to see how much time Tremlett has spent pumping iron in recent years.

This collage of two photos taken ten years apart perhaps best demonstrates his work in the gym.

Cricket fans on Twitter were taken aback by his shape. One wrote: "Whoa!!! What a transformation."
Another put: "Tremmers is that you?"
And a third joked he thought Tendulkar had been photoshopped.

Despite taking "bulking up" to a different level, Tremlett doesn't think his added muscle would help him bowl faster - the opposite in fact.
One Instagram user commented on a post: "Would love to see you bowl now #200mph."
Tremlett replied: "20mph" with a laughing emoji.
But judging by this delivery, it's clear that bulking up has not hindered his bowling technique too much.
