Howard - 7 Had no chance with Matic's goal and showed little fear against opponents who put six past him last season. Coleman - 6 Kept Hazard and Azpilicueta relatively quiet, was never likely to have as much impact as usual going forward. Stones - 8 Showed Chelsea what they were missing, and was just as impressive after being shifted to right-back. Jagielka - 7 Barely troubled by Diego Costa, helped ensure Everton were rarely under much pressure. Galloway - 7 Impressive going forward, contributing well to the opener. Besic - N/A Lasted just eight minutes, ending a miserable week for the Bosnian for club and country. McCarthy - 8 Dominated midfield against more high-profile opponents; linked defence and attack brilliantly. Barry - 6 Solid as ever, but might have expected to have even more to do. Barkley - 7 Decision-making was still lacking at times, but looked capable of anything when he had the ball. Kone - 7 Denied a goal by a brilliant Begovic stop and linked up well with team-mates in the final third. Lukaku - 6 Took his time coming into the game and tried to be over-careful at times, but improved greatly after half-time. Subs: Naismith - 9 A perfect hat-trick from a player who loves competing against the biggest sides in the league. Lennon and Funes Mori - N/A Both helped preserve Everton's advantage in the final 20 minutes.

Chelsea

Begovic - 7 Stopped Everton getting out of sight with some sharp saves, suggesting Thibaut Courtois' injury might not be the massive blow some have claimed. Ivanovic - 4 Becoming a liability at the back, both in terms of positioning and making opponents work. Feebly turned his back on the ball for Naismith's second. Zouma - 5 Struggled with Everton's front three throughout - emphasised how he's still learning the ropes in the Premier League. Terry - 6 Blameless for the goals, though he seemed to get away with a back-pass in the second half. Azpilicueta - 6 His usual solid self. Mourinho might be tempted to move him to his more natural right side to introduce Baba Rahman to the first-team. Matic - 7 Fantastic goal to give the Blues hope, but the game was far more open than the Serb normally allows it to be. Mikel - 6 Had a thankless task in his first league start of the season, but was relatively composed and picked up an assist for Matic's goal. Pedro - 5 Seemed rather blunt - after hitting the ground running, perhaps the international break came at a bad time. Cesc Fabregas - 5 Offered little after being tasked with a more attacking role - his post-Christmas slump continues. Eden Hazard - 5 It hasn't happened for the Belgian this season. Tried hard to force the issue but was well-contained by Everton's back-line. Diego Costa - 6 Worked tirelessly but the support wasn't there. Had more of a presence than in earlier games, though. Substitutes Kenedy - 5 Being tasked with dragging the team back into the game was always going to be tough, but he showed some nice touches Falcao and Willian - N/A Didn't have much time to make a difference, but it didn't seem an extra 20 minutes would have necessarily brought different results.
