After their brilliant third-place finish at the Women’s World Cup, the England team have returned home to a warm welcome.
But the national side’s official Twitter account might not have chosen the best way of expressing the country’s pride.
An ill-conceived tweet suggested that the returning heroes would “go back to being mothers, partners and daughters”, which was rightly slated on social media.

We certainly don’t remember the men’s side being told after their showing at the 2014 World Cup that they’d “go back to being fathers, partners and sons” (let’s just ignore the “heroes” tag on this one), and fans were quick to point out this discrepancy.
