England players test negative for Covid-19 after contact with Billy Gilmour

There really were no positives to come out of the Scotland game for England

All of England's players have returned negative test results for Covid-19 after playing against Scotland's Billy Gilmour on Friday night. The Scotland midfielder turned in a man of the match performance in the goalless draw at Wembley but it has since been confirmed that he has tested positive for Covid-19. Despite being pictured embracing Chelsea teammates Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell after full-time, it has now been reported by the Mirror that all England's players and coaching staff have returned negative results from the PCR tests they completed on Sunday night. Gilmour will now face ten days of isolation, as per Uefa protocols, jeopardising his chances of playing another game at Euro 2020. The loss of Gilmour will come as a huge blow to Steve Clarke's side as they prepare to face Croatia in their final group game, hoping to clinch a place in the last 16. They trained as planned on Monday and remain hopeful that no other members of their squad will be viewed as "close contacts" of Gilmour - despite the reaction to Andy Robertson's deleted Instagram Story, in which the Liverpool full-back could be seen playing table tennis with him. England's lacklustre performance against their old rivals has cast doubt as to whether they are as ready as some might have expected to go far in the tournament. With four points from their opening games, they are yet to seal their place in the last 16, even though a point against the Czech Republic on Tuesday evening will be enough.
