England looking to host Euro 2028, reveals Greg Dyke

Dyke isn't much of a Blatter fan...

England could launch a bid to host Euro 2028, but are unlikely to join the list of potential destinations for the 2026 World Cup, says FA chairman Greg Dyke.

FIFA announced last week that the decision on the 2026 tournament will be made in 2017.

But Dyke explained to Press Association Sport that he is against bidding for the competition as long as Sepp Blatter remains in power. He could have a long wait…

“The truth is, the chances of the 2026 World Cup being in Europe are virtually nil; Sepp Blatter has still got a good chance of being there when it is decided and we certainly won’t bid if Blatter is there,” said Dyke.

“Our policy is that we won’t bid for almost any tournaments while the current leadership is there.

“We would much more interested in bidding for Euro 2028 because we like UEFA but it is a very long time away still.”

England will host the semi-finals and final of Euro 2020 – a tournament that is somewhat inexplicably being played across 13 countries. And should all go well, it could put them in pole position to host the 2028 competition outright.
