Edwin van der Sar rubbishes rumours of a return to Manchester United

Edwin van der Sar doesn't fancy the opportunity to interview for the position of Manchester United's director of football.

Reports last month revealed that United intend to appoint a director of football for the first time in the club's history as part of its major restructure. With figures such as Monchi, who works for Roma, and Juventus' Fabio Paratici identified, Van Der Sar was also mentioned as a potential candidate. The goalkeeper, who made 266 appearances for the Red Devils between 2005 and 2011, was linked with a return to Old Trafford but those links have not lasted long as Van Der Sar has moved to distance himself from the rumours. Ajax's current general director described the reports as "nonsense" and insisted that he's committed to the Dutch club. "I saw it (the report) a few weeks ago in the press, but that story about United is nonsense," Van Der Sar told Inside Ajax, via Sky Sports. "I think I have a two-year contract. Ajax is my club and I would like to stay longer. The success we strive for and want to achieve is beautiful." Van Der Sar won four Premier Leagues, a Champions League and a League Cup during his six-year spell at United and he remains one of the club's greatest ever 'keepers. However a return doesn't look like it's on the cards. United are also in the market for a new recruitment analyst, according to new reports.
