Eden Hazard backs Memphis Depay to shine

Hazard warning...

Against Newcastle, Memphis Depay failed to build on an impressive display against Brugge – earning him an unwanted record.

Despite looking like the real deal in Manchester United’s Champions League qualifier, Depay’s league performances have fallen short of expectations thus far, leading some sections of the media to question if he can adapt to the rigours and demands of the Premier League.

For a lad who has barely been in the country two months, it seems a bit ridiculous that such questions are being asked. But he can take encouragement from the words of Eden Hazard.

In an interview with Fox Sports the reigning PFA Player of the Year spoke highly of United’s new number seven.

“He’s very good, he’s still young,” Hazard said. “I saw the game against Brugge. He scored two fantastic goals. I hope for him [that he fulfils his potential] – but not for Chelsea.”

With United looking to seal their qualification into the Champions League group stages later this week, Memphis will be given another opportunity to show his quality in a red shirt.
