Eddie Howe confronted by pitch invader during Leeds v Newcastle

The incident took place during the 2-2 draw at Elland Road

Eddie Howe was confronted by a pitch invader who appeared to try and attack him during Newcastle’s 2-2 draw against Leeds on Saturday.

BT Sport cameras captured the moment as the supporter made their way out of the crowd and into the away side’s technical area in the closing stages of the game.

Newcastle were waiting to take a free kick after Kieran Trippier had been fouled when Howe was shoved by the pitch invader by security escorted him out of Elland Road.

It was a dramatic end to a game that had implications at both ends of the table. Leeds went in front first as Luke Ayling gave them a seventh minute lead on Sam Allardyce’s first home game in charge.

Patrick Bamford then missed a penalty and was punished shortly later as Callum Wilson stepped up from the spot to equalise for Newcastle.

The away side then took the lead in the second half courtesy of Wilson from 12 yards out again after Junior Firpo was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box.

But Leeds showed resilience to fight back and Rasmus Kristensen’s deflected effort off Trippier beat Nick Pope and earned the home side a valuable point which takes them to within a point of 17th-placed Everton and up one place, leapfrogging Leicester, who don’t play until Monday.

Leeds are yet to release a statement on the incident at the time of writing.
