Sales are down for the new-look game

The new-look EA Sports FC 24 was finally released to customers last week and has already made a huge impact, but has seen a dip in sales.

While EA Sports’ latest football game has become the second-biggest boxed game launch of 2023 in the UK, sales of physical copies are down by 30 per cent.

It’s sales have seen it leapfrog Hogwarts Legacy into third place in terms of the biggest 2023 UK physical game launches. Only The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has sold more.

Physical copies of games are taking a dip across the market as a whole however EA Sports FC and Call of Duty still remain relatively high, despite their dip in sales.

According to GamesIndustry.biz, EA Sports FC may have seen less copies sold as a result of their rebrand from FIFA, with some customers potentially unaware of the new change despite its heavy promotion.

This year’s edition sees women’s players feature in Ultimate Team for the first time while fan-favourite modes such as Career Mode and Pro Clubs remain as part of the options to play.

EA recently made the decision to pull all of their FIFA games offline with immediate effect.

The FIFA video game series had been one of the most successful of all time, evolving over time to replicate real-life events on the pitch and game modes that had been enjoyed by millions.

That all came to an end this year though after it was confirmed that EA Sports would not be renewing their contract with the world football governing body following disagreements over the licensing agreement.
