Ajax have completed a league and cup double this season

Over 100,000 people are believed to have squeezed into Amsterdam’s Museumplein on Thursday afternoon to celebrate Ajax’s league and cup double.

Erik ten Hag’s side sealed the club’s 34th Eredivisie title on Wednesday with a 4-1 win at De Graafschap. They had won the Dutch cup earlier in the month, beating Willem II 4-0 in the final.

Had it not been for Lucas Moura’s late, late winner in the Champions League semi-final last week, Ajax would be on for a treble. Their march to the last four of the competition – eliminating champions Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus along the way – drew plaudits from around the world.

Whereas youngsters Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt might have generated more headlines, the form of former Southampton midfielder Dušan Tadić also caught the eye.

The Serbian international, who joined Ajax last summer, was instrumental in their Champions League campaign and has clearly made a huge impression on the club’s supporters over the course of his first season in Amsterdam.

This was evident during the title celebrations, when, while holding Eredivisie shield, he orchestrated a special rendition of ‘Tadic on fire’, featuring his teammates and tens of thousands of fans.

Take a look. It really is quite something.
