Doctors says Christian Eriksen’s first words after cardiac arrest were ‘I’m only 29’

Christian Eriksen has been in the thoughts and prayers of countless across the world. His sudden collapse during the Euros, which was later revealed to be cardiac arrest, has highlighted just how random and chaotic this world can be.

The doctor who aided Eriksen when he first regained consciousness has spoken on the football star’s first words.

Jens Kleinefeld, a german doctor who was one of the first on sight, administered CPR and a shock from the defibrillator.

Kleinefeld told Fox Sports:

“About 30 seconds later, the player opened his eyes and I could talk to him directly.

“That was a very moving moment, because in such medical emergencies in everyday life, the chances of success are much lower.”

He asked Eriksen if he was back with them, to which the former Tottenham star said: “‘Yes, I am back with you. For f***s sake, I’m only 29 years old.”

On Wednesday, players and coaches from the Euro teams shared a heartwarming video message that displayed their support for their colleague and friend.

Morten Boesen, the doctor for the Danish national team, released a statement following Eriksen’s diagnosis:

A statement read: “After Christian has been through different heart examinations it has been decided that he should have an ICD.
‘This device is necessary after a cardiac attack due to rhythm disturbances.

“Christian has accepted the solution and the plan has moreover been confirmed by specialists nationally and internationally who all recommend the same treatment.

“We encourage everybody to give Christian and his family peace and privacy in the following time.”

Eriksen’s heartbreaking words have shed light on the idea that anything can happen at any time. Many have taken to social media to share their own thoughts, with many saying it has made them realise to take every moment as it comes.
