Demba Ba’s X-Ray released after horrific leg break

" It could end his professional career"

If you’ve seen the footage, you’ll know that it didn’t take an X-Ray to confirm that Demba Ba had broken his leg at the weekend.

The former West Ham, Newcastle and Chelsea striker is now on the books of Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua and picked up the injury during the second half of their derby match with Shanghai SIPG.

Having been stretchered off in agony, Ba was immediately rushed to a hospital where the extent of the damage to his leg was assessed. X-Rays released on Monday appear to show the 31-year-old has broken both his tibia and fibula in his left leg – again, no great surprise if you’ve seen the video of the tackle.

Shanghai Shenhua’s manager Gregorio Manzano insisted that Ba would receive “the best medical treatment” during his comments after the game but added that the injury could bring an end to his career.

“It could end Ba’s professional career. I would rather lose the game than lose Ba. God is unfair. Ba is too good to have this happened to him.”

Sun Xiang, the SIPG player who tackled Ba, has since visited him in hospital along with Zhao Wen – Shanghai’s vice-mayor.
