David Moyes has made a very bold prediction for Manchester United's season

Jose Mourinho took one last swipe at the Manchester United board before insisting that he would wait a few months before evaluating his side's title chances.

United claimed a 2-1 victory over Leicester City in their Premier League opener and Mourinho continued to lament the lack of summer spending from those above him.

After describing himself as more of a head coach than a manager nowadays, the Red Devils boss refused to brand his side title challengers just yet.

"It will be a difficult season for everybody," Mourinho said on Friday night. "For us it will be a difficult season because I had my plans, and I had my plans for many months, and I started the Premier League season without a situation I thought.

"We have to wait until the end of November to understand if we can fight for the title."

But former United manager David Moyes has thrown his backing behind last season's runners-up by suggesting that Mourinho's side ought to be leading the way come the festive season.

While several pundits already consider the Premier League a two-horse race between Manchester City and Liverpool this year, Moyes believes United will take some beating.

"It doesn't matter who you are playing in the Premier League, they are tough." Moyes told BBC Five Live.

"But if you were looking at the games that Manchester United have, the first nine, ten games. You'd have to say you are not playing an Arsenal, a City, a Chelsea in that period.

"That's why I wonder if Jose's words the other day, the 'let's wait until the end of November', I would be very surprised if United weren't top of the league come the end of November.

"I think the fixtures which have come out for them, and the way it has worked, will give them every opportunity to be there."
