David Beckham’s MLS franchise has taken a huge step forward

A matter of time...

Major League Soccer are increasingly confident that David Beckham will launch his Miami-based franchise.

MLS chief, Don Garber, told the BBC that the former England skipper has been putting in plenty of work over the last 12 months to make sure the project can launch.

As has been reported, one of the main hold-ups has been securing a stadium – something which now appears to be close.

“(There has been) a lot more progress lately, rather than over the past 12 to 15 months. A site has been selected – it is the former Orange Bowl, where the University of Miami used to play,” Garber explained.

“They have to cross for Ts and dot some Is and finalise a whole bunch of deals with the city and with other land owners, but I am confident,” he added.

With Major League Soccer expanding to 20 teams this season with the addition of NYCFC, Beckham’s franchise isn’t expected to be the only new one.
