Date and location of Tyson Fury’s comeback fight revealed in reports

Won't have far to travel

Tyson Fury won’t have far to travel for his first fight in almost three years.

Several reports claim that the undefeated heavyweight is set to make his return to the ring this summer in Manchester.

Both ESPN and Manchester Evening News report that Fury has signed a deal with promoter Frank Warren and will make his comeback on June 9.

An opponent has yet to be named although it would not be surprising to see Fury take on an unheralded fighter in order to hopefully shake off any ring rust that has accumulated in recent years.

Fury has not fought since 2015, when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko via unanimous decision in Dusseldorf to lay claim to the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight titles.

A string of issues have kept him out of competition since then but we’ve seen a re-motivated Fury in recent months as he’s dedicated himself to a strenuous training regime and ketogenic diet, which has seen him almost return to fight shape.

The 29-year-old has also seen his UK Anti-Doping ban backdated and his boxing licence reinstated, which frees Fury up to get back to doing what he does best.

Only last week, Fury set himself the ambitious career goal of bettering the title defence record of heavyweight legend Joe Louis.

“I’ve just set myself a goal of beating the great Joe Louis’ record of 25 title defences,” Fury said on Instagram on Monday night.

“Wladimir Klitschko almost beat Joe Louis’ record until I beat him and stopped him from equalling the great Joe Louis’ record.

“So I’ve got 25 title defences to beat in the next 10 years. Even if I have to book three fights a year, I’ll beat it.

“It’s going to be a hard challenge but I’ve never set a challenge that I didn’t make. If anyone’s capable of doing it, I’m capable of doing it.

“What’s that word? Longevity! That’s what I’m looking for. I ain’t no flash in the pan and you’re going to see it here, exclusive!

“All comers! 26 title defences!”
