Ronaldo was on target later, but that wasn't the case before kick-off
A stray Cristiano Ronaldo shot injured a member of security staff as Manchester United prepared for their first Champions League game of the new season.
United faced Swiss side Young Boys at the Wankdorf Stadium in Bern. Despite opening the scoring in the first 15 minutes to give the Red Devils the lead in the game, his shooting prior to the game had a slightly less positive outcome.
The Portuguese captain was practising his shooting before kick-off when he hit a rouge shot that smacked a security guard who was situated behind the goal.
The member of staff was pictured on the ground in the aftermath of the shot, with a concerned Ronaldo leaping over the advertising hoardings to check on his wellbeing.
It's unclear how the security guard is, but pictures taken by a photographer appeared to show Ronaldo in conversation with them.
Ronaldo scored his first Champions League goal for United since his brace in the 2009 semi-final against Arsenal when he latched on to a sumptuous pass from Bruno Fernandes early on.
Taking his shot fist time, Ronaldo's effort squrimed under the Young Boys goalkeeper to give United the perfect start to their European campaign.
It followed his two goals on his second United debut at the weekend, which helped his club to a 4-1 victory over Newcastle United in the Premier League.
